The International Rally of Lebanon, the fourth round of the Middle East Rally Championship, will begin today in the mountainous town of Matn with the participation of 32 cars.
The rally will continue until Sunday, with a total distance of 672.75km, includes 11 special stages with a distance of 206.30km.
Qatar’s Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah is seeking to win the title for the first time in his career in order to put an end to the dominance of Lebanese drivers, especially Roger Feghali, who has won the title 12 times.
Al-Attiyah, who has already won the Middle East title 12 times, also won the last two rallies in Jordan and Cyprus in May and June respectively. He will aim to perform well in his Ford Fiesta.
The participants include Kuwaiti Mishari al-Theffiri, Jordanian Assem Aref and a large group of Lebanese drivers including Abdo Feghali.
Qatar’s talented Rashed al-Naimi started the Middle East Championship by winning Qatar Rally in February, before his compatriot al-Attiyah won the next two rounds in Jordan and Cyprus.
Al-Attiyah leads the overall ranking of drivers in the Middle East with 85 points, 19 points behind Kuwaiti driver al-Theffiri.
