Andrea Caldarelli’s masterpiece under the rain in Austria

Andrea Caldarelli completed one of the greatest race of his career in Red Bull Ring, for third 2018 ADAC GT Masters round. The Italian Factory Driver for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, at the wheel of #63 Huracan GT3 ORANGE1 by GRT climbed from P25 to 2nd place in Sunday race.

Alongside regular teammate Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea drove the first stint with slick tyres on heavy rain conditions, while some of the other opponents decide to switch on the rain Pirelli’s compound. The Italian gave the car at the driver change in second position, with Mirko moving in the second slot of the podium just in the last lap.

The Austria venue, despite it was Grasser Racing Team home bound, was a difficult one on the paper for the Lamborghini, due a difficult BoP situation. Saturday hadn’t a successful conclusion, when Andrea had to retire few laps before the end when was 7th, due a transmission issue. The Italian pair is now 4th in the standings, with 44 points.

Andrea Caldarelli

“We had an amazing race, and show we’re brave enough to bet on our potential. In normal conditions, this wouldn’t be possible, as after Oschersleben performance, our car has a heavy BoP. I choose to stay out on track slick tyres due heavy rain, overtaking in very adverse conditions.

After the driving change, I followed intensely Mirko’s stint, until in the very last lap he managed to bring back the car where it was before the change. Big congratulations to the whole team and to Lamborghini Squadra Corse for this great result, now it’s time to celebrate it in a proper way”.
