Hyundai Motorsport has chosen Dani Sordo to close its driver line-up for the Monza Rally, last round of the 2020 WRC season. After achieving a brilliant triumph at the last Rally Italia-Sardinia, the South Korean firm has decided to rely on the talent of the Cantabrian driver on asphalt to compete in the last event of the year. The experience at the Monza Rally Show at the controls of different vehicles has been key for Dani Sordo to be in charge of driving the team’s third Hyundai i20 WRC Coupé and not a Craig Breen who had also contested two events to date.
Dani Sordo Italy
Thus, Thierry Neuville, Ott Tänak and Dani Sordo will defend Hyundai’s interests in Monza, being main players in the fight for the title of constructors. However, The South Korean firm faces the Italian event with an advantage of seven over Toyota in the constructors’ general classificationTherefore, the performance of the brand’s three drivers will be key to securing enough points to win the title. Further, Sordo may also play an important role in the fight for the drivers’ title if his performance places him between Neuville, Tänak and the Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers.
The experience of Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio in the Monza Rally Show will be, without a doubt, a differentiating factor. With two victories to his credit in this event, Sordo will be an extra bonus for a team that has put all the meat on the grill. In fact, Hyundai Motorsport has been working on a last evolution within this 2020 season for its Hyundai i20 WRC Coupé. This can be seen in the Kehala Rally, a test in which Ott Tänak debuted a small variation on the front of the i20. It is very likely that these changes to the side fins can be seen at Monza.
