“Jan [Marklund, team principal] called me on Monday and asked if I was interested in running for world championship gold in one of his VW cars,” said Andersson.
“You cannot describe how incredibly happy and grateful I am to be given this opportunity.
“To go into the world championship with this professional, knowledgeable and winning team feels enormous. I am hugely psyched for the season.”
The double Junior World Rally champion, who was also part of Suzuki’s shortlived works WRC project in 2008, assisted the Marklund squad in the early part of 2014 as a development driver before moving to Hedstroms Motorsport to contest the German round of World RX.
He then raced one of EKS’s Audi S1s in the Istanbul event, where an engine change kept him out of the semi-finals.
Marklund Motorsport finished second in the World Rallycross teams’ championship last season, only losing the title to Ford squad OlsbergsMSE in the finale in Argentina.
