Former Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen married partner Minttu Virtanen in a lavish ceremony in Tuscany this weekend.The Ferrari ace, 36, made things official with the 29-year-old underwear model at the Abbey of San Galgano.
Raikkonen carried the couple’s 19-month-old son out of the venue, as he wore a sharp navy suit for his big day at the alter.
Elegant bride Minttu wore an ivory gown as she walked down the isle.
Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene was in attendance with his wife Stefania Bocchi, as the Italian team came and supported their driver.There is a short gap in the F1 schedule which will allow the pair to enjoy their honeymoon over the next fortnight.
Raikkonen returns to action on Friday August 26 for the Belgian Grand Prix.
Speaking recently in Finnish lifestyle magazine Kauneus and Terveys, Minttu admitted: “It took some time before he trusted me.
“Kimi is very wary of people. He always wonders if people are sincere or not.
Minttu has regularly been by her partner’s side at F1 races
She has become a regular feature in the Ferrari paddock
“But eventually we established trust between us and in May last year he asked me to stop work to move in with him in Switzerland to take care of me.”
Minttu also admitted that for Raikkonen, he puts his family before anything else – even his pursuit of a second F1 world championship.
She also revealed that the pair are looking to have more children in the future.
Raikkonen is hoping to make the podium in the drivers’ championship this season
Raikkonen, who claimed world glory back in 2007, will hope that does not influence his F1 career.
He currently stands two points ahead of team-mate Sebastian Vettel in fourth place in the drivers’ championship.
However, he is 95 points behind Mercedes driver and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton, who has recently extended his lead at the top from Nico Rosberg.
