IMG terminates Americas Rallycross Championship

The IMG agency has announced it will end its Americas Rallycross Championship (ARX) having failed to reach an agreement with commercial partners to secure its long-term future. IMG launched the North American series in March 2018 as a companion to the World Rallycross Championship (World RX), which it also promotes. However, the agency said ARX will not continue into a third season.

IMG said: “After consultation with a wide group of stakeholders and interested parties, IMG has taken the difficult decision to not extend the Americas Rallycross Championship beyond the 2019 season.”

“Over the past few months, IMG had been exploring a number of options with commercial partners to secure the long-term future of the championship but, unfortunately, none of those options came to fruition.”

The inaugural ARX season featured four rounds, three alongside existing World RX events and a standalone event at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The calendar expanded to six events in 2019 through the addition of new rallycross circuits built at Mid-Ohio and Gateway in Madison, Illinois.

The 2020 World RX calendar is currently without a North American round due to the decision to remove the Canadian event in Trois-Rivieres from the schedule. The IMG statement added: “The expanding footprint of the FIA World Rallycross Championship means that we may revisit the possibility of the inclusion of a North American round on the world calendar in the future.”
