With another strong appearance at the penultimate event of the season at the FIA Rallycross Championship 2014 in Turkey, Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen (FIN) successfully defended second place in the driver rankings.
At the same time, the Marklung motorsport team, which includes both of the over 500 PS powerful Volkswagen Polo RX Supercars of Heikkinen and Anton Marklund (FIN), took the lead in the team rankings. In Istanbul, Heikkinen delivered four gripping heats with Swede Timmy Hansen (S, Peugeot).
After Heikkinen was able to win the first heat and had to be satisfied with tenth place in the second heat, it came to a direct dual in the third heat between him and Hansen, which the Swede narrowly won. In the fourth and final heat, Heikkinen secured more points with fourth place, with which he successfully confirmed second place in the overall ranking.
With one event to go before the end of the season, Petter Solberg (N) – who has already secured the championship title – is at the front of the super car rankings with 250 points, followed by Heikkinen with 200. Third place in the overall rankings is occupied by Reinis Nittis (LR) with 182 points. The season finale will take place in San Luis, Argentina, on 28-29 November.
