Latvala suffers heavy crash during pre-Mexico test

Rally Sweden winner Jari-Matti Latvala has suffered a crash in Almeria, Spain, rolling his Toyota during a gravel test.Latvala joined new WRC team Toyota for 2017, and currently leads the championship after taking second in Monte Carlo and winning in Sweden.

The next round of the season will be in Mexico on 10-12 March, the first gravel rally in the schedule, and Toyota has chosen Almeria as its testing venue for its loose surface preparations.

However, Latvala crashed his Yaris WRC just a few hundred metres after the start.

The Finn slid off the road at an uphill left-hander, and rolled his car once before coming to a halt.

Latvala and his co-driver Miikka Anttila escaped the incident unscathed, but Toyota’s testing programme was delayed due to neccessary repairs to the car.
