KEVIN ABBRING’s co-driver Seb Marshall says the Dutch ace has the pace to win next month’s Geko Ypres Rally, round six of the FIA European Rally Championship. Abbring and Marshall will head to Belgium on a high following their second-place finish on SATA Rallye Açores recently. And they are hoping for further success in their Peugeot Rally Academy 208T16.
“ON THE FIRST two rallies where we were driving on Tarmac Kevin and I have demonstrated we’ve got the pace to set the fastest times and be in contention for leading the rally and for the victory at the end,” said Briton Marshall. “Going to Ypres it’s a different challenge again. Both Kevin and myself have been to the rally before. We both know what to expect. We have a test with Peugeot Sport before the event and for sure the entry will be fantastic there.”
Despite the air of optimism, Marshall acknowledges there will be some serious competition ahead on the Belgian asphalt showcase, which takes place from 19-21 June.
“I was reading some of the names on the entry list,” said Marshall. “Freddy Loix is down to compete and there will be many fast drivers in R5 and Super 2000 cars. It’s a big challenge but we are more than capable of fighting for the stage wins and hopefully for the victory.”
