MAX VERSTAPPEN has been criticised by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg.Verstappen, 21, could become the youngster ever F1 world champion if he can pip Lewis Hamilton to the title this year.
The Red Bull driver finished the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in third place.
But Wolff has a gripe with the youngster over his crash with Valtteri Bottas in Italy last year.
I think with Verstappen it is different,” Wolff said on Rosberg’s Youtube podcast.
“There is a part in his life that we don’t see which is the relationship with his father.
“I think that Jos is giving his son the direct feedback, I don’t think he’s holding back.
“Max’s behaviour is self-confident in a way you could also say over-confident.
“But he is very young. When he collided with Valtteri in Monza last year it is pretty obvious there was not enough space.
“I watched a reply a few days ago, it was on Sky and Martin Brundle, who knows everything, even said there was not enough space.
“I think the older he gets the more he matures he is going to get than anger under control.”
Rosberg also laid into the Dutchman.“If you look at Verstappen he is a narcissist like you write it in the dictionary,” he said.
“How can you not question yourself if you make the same mistake six times and then on the seventh time you still do the same thing.
“But then you have so much talent and it turns around into a huge success streak.
“I am no so convinced that you are right.
“An extreme narcissist, when you have the right special talent, can be an extremely powerful force, and maybe even the most powerful.”
