Despite crashing out of 2018 Kennards Hire Rally AustraliaOtt Tänak was still pleased with how his overall championship unfolded across the season. The Estonian still was mathematically in the running for the title with just two stages left in the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship before he hit a tree on the penultimate stage of the event while lying second at the time forcing him to retire from the final round of the year.

He said on his weekend and his season in general: “Congratulations to everybody in the team. They have done a great job. Personally, I can be disappointed about how it ended for me today, but in general I am really happy: I have the strongest car in the championship and strong people around me.”

“It was a great battle all year; we were always trying our best. I went off in a really tricky stage with a lot of muddy places. I think it didn’t change too much in either championship though. I am really happy with my season and we will keep pushing next year.”

Tänak finished the 2018 championship in third place and came into the final round of the year as the outsider of the three way battle with Thierry Neuville and eventual champion Sebastien Ogier.
