Rally driver Elfyn Evans hailed as Wales’ best-ever

After finishing second on two occasions in this year’s World Rally Championship so far, in Argentina and at the last rally in Finland, Evans, who hails from Dolgellau, is currently sixth place in the drivers’ championship after nine races.

Emyr said: “This has been Elfyn’s best season yet and I’d say he’s now established himself as Wales’ best-ever driver. He was beaten into second place by just 0.7 seconds in Argentina after 357km of racing, which is just unbelievable.

“The second place he achieved in Finland was great because it’s usually only Finnish drivers who do well there. He managed to master the sand and dust in Argentina and then excelled in the gravel of Finland. I think this year Elfyn has stepped up a level. He’s incredibly unlucky not to have won a rally so far.”

Up next for the Ford M-Sport driver will be the Rallye Deutschland race in Germany and Emyr believes that the smooth surface of the race will work to Elfyn’s advantage. Highlights from the rally will feature in the next edition of Ralïo+, on Monday, 21 August at 6.30pm.

Also in this episode of Ralïo+, Hana Medi will meet the trial biker from Ffestiniog, Iwan Roberts, who is leading this year’s FIM Trial2 World Championship. Llinos Lee will also head to the Trawsfynydd ‘Ranges’ to bring highlights from the Gareth Hall Memorial Rally.
