RALLY: Kagendo becomes first African woman to be appointed clerk-of-course

Hellen Shiri Kagendo has become the first African woman to be appointed the Clerk-of-Course for the Rally Sports Club round of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) for June 2018.

Shiri, the WRC Safari Rally Project Event Secretary has made history by becoming the first woman to hold the position in the motorsport scene.

“I am glad for this challenge and I am up for it. It is an interesting post, I am also looking forward to attract more women into motor sports,” said Kagendo the former Abdul Sidi student who joined rallying eight years ago.

Hellen was the first Kenyan woman to finish an international rally tournament and was navigated by Tuta Mionki in a Subaru Impreza.

She also became the first ASN Steward for a round of the KNRC, the KMSC Rally last January. She will also be serving in the same capacity in KNRC round 3 which will be hosted by KMSC in May 12th to 13th 2018.

“The main challenge now is to bring WRC back to Kenya. The president Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta gave us three years to do so and would like to involve each and every Kenyan especially women,” Kagendo said explaining what it takes to have the (WRC) World Rally Championships back in Kenya
