Takamoto Katsuta will get another opportunity with Toyota Gazoo Racing in the final round of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship aboard the team’s fourth Yaris WRC.
Katsuta will return to the team alongside current championship leader Elfyn Evans, second in the standings Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä for the final round of the year.
The 27 years old is part of Toyota’s WRC development program and has participated in a total of four rallies so far this season.
In the season opener at Rallye Monte-Carlo, Katsuta finished seventh before taking ninth place on Rally Sweden in round two. Unfortunately for the Japanese driver however, the last two events he has entered in Estonia and Sardinia have resulted in a pair of retirements from each round.
“Honestly, I couldn’t imagine that I would be back on a circuit after joining the world of rallying from racing, especially on the Monza circuit. Monza circuit is one of the most historic circuits in the world so I’m very glad to be there!,” Katsuta said in an interview with WRC.com.
“I think there will be less risks compared to other Tarmac rallies, so at least I can try many things,” continued Katsuta, who is currently part of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s young driver development programme. Hopefully my previous track experience can help a little bit for some sections.”
The final round of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship takes place at Monza between December 4-6.
