Speculation has been rife that Rossi is finally feeling his age.
The motorsport legend, who turned 40 earlier this year, has now been racing at the highest level for two decades.
Rossi insists he can still compete with the elite, though.
“If today I was as fast as last year, but I only arrived eighth because the other guys made a step and were 20 seconds faster than last year, you say ‘maybe it’s over, it’s difficult’,” Rossi said.
“But I’m 20 seconds slower than my own time last year.
“Not five years ago. And I feel good. I feel concentrated.
“I feel motivated. But I don’t have the touch with the bike.”
“She is always willing to help you with everything you need and with the girlfriend it’s harder.
“Sometimes it’s okay, but sometimes it’s harder to manage.
“With the bike it’s more like this, we’ve improved the pace, but it’s not great.
