Rossi’s last world title success was in 2009 which rounded off a decade of immense success.
Since then the emergence of both Marc Marquez and former team-mate Jorge Lorenzo has seen the Italian fall down the pecking order.Lorenzo’s world title triumph in 2010 saw Yamaha offer him number one status prompting Rossi to seek new challenges at Ducati.

His two years away yielded no success and upon his return he was once again beaten to the title by Lorenzo in 2015.
Marquez has gone on to dominate in recent seasons having won five of the last six championships.
The Italian rider has also not won a race since the Dutch Grand Prix in June 2017.This year his young colleague Maverick Vinales was the sole race winner for Yamaha in a turbulent year for the manufacturer.
The Italian’s popularity though has not diminished with his loyal and fanatic following continuing to flood grandstands with his traditional yellow merchandise.
