Earlier this month Porsche announced it would take the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport racing in the World Rally Championship’s R-GT class. Though it has yet to build a 718 GT4 to R-GT specifications, it has built a previous-generation Cayman GT4 for testing. That car made its debut last weekend during an ice event in Austria, and it looks like a supremely capable machine.
The car, driven by rally icon Walter Röhrl in the video below, was built for platform testing, and to gauge the public’s interest, to see if entering a Cayman would be a smart move for Porsche’s motorsport division. The company says its cars will be ready to race at the beginning of the 2020 season.
We’ll have to wait another year to see 718 Cayman GT4s out on the stages, but considering how cool this test car looks getting sideways on ice, we’re excited for the car’s official debut.
