Horne out to prove a point at Red Star

Andrew Horne (Xena Chemicals / Budd Power Royale RP31) needs just a single point at the final round of the Investchem Formula Ford Kent championship, which takes place at Red Star Raceway outside Delmas on Saturday, 19 November, to wrap up the 2016 title.

The only driver standing between the reigning champion and a successful defence of his title is Dean Venter (Turnfab Engineering / Manitou Group Swift) although the chances of Venter denying Horne a second successive title are very slim. Horne needs just an eighth place in either of the two races on Saturday to secure the championship win.

The battle for third place is far from over. Ian Schofield (Investchem Mygale) currently leads David Jermy (Matt Nash Motorsport Van Diemen) by just three points. That could have been other way round had things turned out a bit differently last time out at Zwartkops. They were both involved in the second corner incident that brought out the red flags. Schofield was able to make it back to the grid for the restart but Jermy’s car was too badly damaged and he has to watch Schofield go on to take the win to pass him in the championship standings.

Jeff Gable Gable (Taylon Motorsport Van Diemen) has a slight buffer in fifth place but the next three drivers are separated by just four points. Dalan Holton (Debella Finance van Diemen) and Andy Schofield (Investchem Reynard) both have 35 points with Allen Meyer (Van Diemen) in hot pursuit.

Friday sees the cars out on track for a number of practice sessions with qualifying and both races happening on Saturday. The 15-minute qualifying session is scheduled for 09h00 on Saturday morning with the first of the two 8-lap races getting underway at 11h00. Race 2 is scheduled to start at 14h00.
